How to Block Snapchat on iPhone (3 Ways)

By the Snitch team, behavioural science experts from Imperial College London #snapchat#iphone

Snapchat streaks keep you coming back. Three ways to block Snapchat on iPhone, from a free Screen Time limit to friends, plus what to do about streaks.

Made by the team behind Snitch. Methods 1 and 2 are free and built into your iPhone. Method 3 is our app. How we write these guides

Snapchat is sneaky: streaks keep you coming back, and “just replying” turns into 40 minutes of Stories and Spotlight.

Note (On iOS 27?)

Apple renamed App Limits to Time Allowances in iOS 27, and moved the passcode under Passcode & Management. The steps below use the iOS 26 names, which you’ll still see if any of your Apple devices isn’t on iOS 27 yet.

Method 1: Set a Snapchat time limit (free)

  1. Settings, then Screen Time, then App Limits, then Add Limit.
  2. Open Social, tick Snapchat, tap Next.
  3. Set your daily time and tap Add.

Method 2: Lock it with a passcode (free)

Set a Screen Time passcode (Lock Screen Time Settings), ideally one a friend sets for you, then turn on Block at End of Limit so “Ignore Limit” needs their OK. Add snapchat.com to Safari’s Never Allow list too. See how to block websites in Safari.

Method 3: Friends hold the keys (Snitch)

Add Snapchat to your Snitch group’s limited apps. You and up to 4 friends share a daily time pot, and going over eats into theirs.

What about streaks?

The real hook. A few ideas:

  • Tell your streak friends you’re cutting down. Most won’t mind.
  • Send streaks in one 5-minute window a day, then close the app.
  • Or let them go. It’s a number, not a friendship.
