How to Block TikTok on Android (3 Ways)

By the Snitch team, behavioural science experts from Imperial College London #tiktok#android

Block TikTok on Android with a free Digital Wellbeing app timer, Focus mode for your weak hours, or a group of friends who share your limit.

Made by the team behind Snitch. Methods 1 and 2 are free and built into Android. Method 3 is our app. Menu names vary by phone brand. How we write these guides

TikTok is designed so there’s always one more video. Here are three ways to put a stop to it on Android, from free to friends-powered.

Method 1: Set an app timer with Digital Wellbeing (free)

  1. Open Settings, then Digital Wellbeing & parental controls (on Samsung, Digital Wellbeing and parental controls).
  2. Tap the chart (on Samsung, App timers).
  3. Find TikTok and set a timer.
  4. Choose your daily limit, e.g. 30 minutes.

When the time’s up, TikTok’s icon greys out until midnight.

The catch: you can turn the timer off in two taps.

Method 2: Use Focus mode (free)

In Digital Wellbeing, set up Focus mode with TikTok as a distracting app, then tap Set a schedule for your weak hours (e.g. 10pm to 7am). On some phones you can also long-press the TikTok icon and tap Pause app to grey it out until you unpause it.

The catch: same as method 1. You’re the one holding the off switch.

Method 3: Let your friends hold the keys (Snitch)

Snitch works on Android and iPhone, so it doesn’t matter what phones your friends have.

  1. Download Snitch from Google Play and make or join a group of up to 5.
  2. Add TikTok to your limited apps.
  3. Agree a shared daily pot.
  4. Go over, and it eats into your friends’ time, so they get a say.

On Android, Snitch can also block TikTok in your browser, so you can’t just switch to the website.

Which should you use?
